Delivery rider dies after being hit by truck in Rizal

A delivery rider died, while another female rider was injured after being hit by a truck that allegedly counterflowed in Barangay San Andres, Cainta, Rizal on Saturday night, Feb. 7.

Based on reports and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, a garbage truck owned by the local government of Cainta was initially seen stopping along the road to collect garbage, with the victims traveling in the same lane.

Moments later, another truck with a “Waste Management” banner was seen approaching from the opposite lane with no oncoming vehicles. The truck then suddenly moved into the lane where the garbage truck was positioned, directly hitting the two riders.

The delivery rider's motorcycle was also reportedly dragged by the truck, resulting in the rider being pronounced dead on the spot. Meanwhile, the female rider reportedly managed to jump off her motorcycle, sustaining injuries.

The truck’s driver claimed that the truck he was driving was loaded. He is now in police custody.

Authorities are now investigating the incident.
