House Majority Leader Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos will neither dip his hands nor speak his mind about the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Taking the high road, the presidential son says he is focused on passing key legislation, such as his House Bill (HB) No.7432 of the proposed No Work, No Pay for Members of Congress Act; and HB No.7443 or the proposed Travel Tax Abolition Act.
Asked in a chance interview Wednesday, Feb. 4 for comments on the recent filing of two impeachment complaints against Vice President Duterte, Rep. Marcos said: "I'm not going to comment on any impeachment complaints for anyone."
Rep. Marcos, 31, followed the same tact in the just-concluded impeachment proceedings against his father, President Marcos, wherein he inhibited himself from the hearings of the Committee on Justice.
It was also on Wednesday when the justice panel dismissed for insufficiency in substance the two filed impeachment complaints against the Chief Executive.
Reports said that on Thursday, Feb. 5, House Secretary General Cheloy Garafil transmitted the two filed impeachment raps against Duterte to the office of Speaker Faustino "Bojie" Dy III. These complaints could get referred to the justice panel as early as Monday, Feb. 9.
In veering away from impeachment talks, the majority leader says he wants to "make sure that the best laws are passed for the Filipino people".
Among the arguments for the Duterte's impeachment is the alleged conspiracy to assassinate President Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former House Speaker Leyte 1st district Rep. Martin Romualdez.
