A 48-year-old man died after he was hit and run over by a passing tourist bus while attempting to escape from arresting officers in Pasay City on Friday, Feb. 7.
Pasay City Police Chief Col. Joselito De Sesto identified the victim as Timosan, a resident of Villa Sta. Maria, Zamboanga City. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Pasay City General Hospital.
De Sesto said the incident occurred at around 5:45 a.m. along the northbound lane of Domestic Road, in front of the Cebu Pacific office.
Police said Timosan was earlier flagged down by members of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) along Andrews Avenue for driving a Nissan Navara with an improvised license plate number. He was brought to the HPG South District Office along Domestic Road for documentation.
While at the office, authorities discovered that Timosan had three standing warrants of arrest for estafa.
As officers were about to escort him to the HPG headquarters in Camp Crame, Timosan reportedly attempted to escape upon the opening of the office door toward Andrews Avenue.
A chase ensued, during which he was struck by a passing PTX tourist bus.
The bus driver, identified as Aldwin, 52, a resident of Pitogo, Quezon Province, initially fled the scene but later surrendered to police.
Aldwin was brought to the Pasay Vehicular Traffic Investigation Section (VTIS) and was charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
