BACOLOD CITY – A nine-year-old girl was mauled to death and her two siblings were injured in an attack by an unidentified person inside their house in Barangay E. Lopez, Silay City, Negros Occidental on Saturday, Feb. 7.
Police Lt. Col. Edison Garcia, Silay police chief, said the victims were usually alone at home as their mother is an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) and their father works here.
Garcia said the victims’ father discovered them when he went home before noon.
The injured – a 14-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy – are in critical condition and recuperating in a hospital.
The victims sustained head injuries and bruises, according to Garcia.
Police said that neighbors heard shouting late Friday night, Feb. 6, but ignored this due to heavy rainfall.
Police recovered a stone from the crime scene.
Investigators have yet to determine the motive but have a person of interest.
Police are looking for witnesses in the incident.
