ILOILO CITY – A series of activities kicked off this week as part of the 40th death anniversary of Gov. Evelio B. Javier, whose February 1986 assassination in Antique province was one of the last events that triggered the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution.
The administration of Gov. Paolo Javier began a province-wide symposium, one of the ongoing activities leading to his uncle’s death anniversary of Feb. 11.
“My uncle dedicated his life to the people of Antique,” said Paolo in a statement.
Provincial tourism coordinator Celestino Dalumpines disclosed that the symposium started at high schools in the towns of Anini-y and Tobias Fornier.
Each symposium will have a stage play about the annual Binirayan Festival, which was instituted by Evelio during his tenure as governor.
Known fondly as “Beloy,” Evelio was gunned down by a group of armed men in the provincial capital of San Jose de Buenavista during local counting of ballots during the snap elections.
Evelio was Antique’s local coordinator for then presidential candidate Corazon “Cory” Aquino.
