Executive Secretary Ralph Recto reminded 58 newly appointed public officials that their posts are a duty to serve, not a mark of privilege, as he administered their oath of office in Malacañang Palace.
During the oath-taking ceremony in Malacañan on Wednesday, Feb. 5, Recto told the officials their appointments should be seen as a responsibility to the public rather than a personal distinction.
“Hindi ito titulo para tumaas ang tingin sa sarili (This is not a title to elevate oneself),” he said.
“Ito ay panunumpang ibaba ang sarili para iangat ang taumbayan (It is an oath to humble oneself to uplift the people),” he added.
The Executive Secretary said public office carries accountability, noting that appointees’ actions now reflect not only on themselves but also on the administration and the trust placed in them by Filipinos.
He stressed that loyalty must be anchored first in service to the country and its citizens.
Recto also urged the officials to uphold high standards of governance by prioritizing results over publicity and impact over recognition.
He likewise reminded them that the true measure of public service lies in whether government action leads to tangible improvements in people’s lives.
