Mandaluyong opens modern DRRM office with 300 CCTV cameras
To ensure the safety and security of residents 24/7, Mandaluyong Mayor Carmelita "Menchie" Abalos led the inauguration of the city’s most modern Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) building in Barangay Mauway on Thursday, Feb. 5.
Abalos, together with the City Council, made the inaugural blessing as part of the 81st Liberation and 32nd Cityhood Celebration of Mandaluyong on Feb. 9.
Former Mandaluyong Mayor and Secretary of the Interior and Local Government, Atty. Benhur Abalos also attended the event.
In her speech, Mayor Menchie said the new four-story DRRMO building is equipped with 300 CCTV cameras to enhance the safety and security of Mandaleños.
The mayor said the building has already been completed at a cost of about P200 million. She added that an additional 300 CCTV cameras will be installed to further enhance monitoring.
“Ito po ay isinagawa dahil sa ating naisin na maging mas maayos ang monitoring, komunikasyon, at mabilis ang pagtugon sa mga di inaasahang sakuna at aksidente gamit ang makabagong teknolohiya at mga kagamitan, mas malawak na pasilidad at mga opisina, ganun din, ang fully equipped na Emergency Operations Center (This project was undertaken to improve monitoring, communication, and the city’s response to unforeseen disasters and accidents, utilizing modern technology and equipment, expanded facilities and offices, as well as a fully equipped Emergency Operations Center),” the mayor said.
The Command Center of the City of Mandaluyong Emergency Operations Center, located on the fourth floor of the building, monitors the city’s entry and exit points.
The former city mayor said the Command Center will assist the police in their operations, adding that the key to the city’s success is the cooperation of its residents.
CDRRMO Head Roald R. Arcangel added that the facility houses 18 clusters, including the barangays, police, fire department, social welfare, education, and the Coast Guard, among others, and is linked with the 17 cities and municipalities in Metro Manila.
Mayor Abalos said the Command Center will also help in responding to fire incidents, flooding, class suspensions, and other emergencies, as it is shared with other local government units.
The four-story facility was conceptualized by former Sec. Benhur Abalos and implemented by Mayor Menchie Abalos. The space for the building was donated by the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH).
Also present at the event were Vice Mayor Anthony Suva, Councilors Elton Yap, Charice Abalos Vargas, and Mariz Manalo, Barangay Captain Ricky Ogbac, and Chief of Police Col. Batam, among others.
