Luke Chiang unveils debut album 'Typhoon,' collaborates with Filipino-American singers

Rising Taiwanese-American singer-songwriter Luke Chiang dropped his debut album “Typhoon.” 

It marked a defining moment in Luke's journey — one shaped by loss, resilience, and a determined comeback after a vocal condition temporarily took away his ability to sing. 

For him, the album is both a personal reckoning and a confident step forward for an artist reconnecting with longtime fans while reaching new audiences across Southeast Asia and beyond. 

Six years ago, shortly after a visit to Taiwan during typhoon season, he lost his ability to sing due to a vocal condition that forced him into an extended hiatus. 

While the storm was not the cause, the timing became symbolic of the emotional turbulence that followed, marking the beginning of a bleak period when Luke was unable to do what he loved. 

The album features collaborations, including with Filipino-Norwegian Hillari, Filipino-American artists Albert Posis and Jesse Barrera, and Bren Joy.

The focus track, "me & u", is a tender duet with Hillari and explores choosing commitment despite both partners' insecurities. 

The album follows the breakout momentum of Luke's earlier singles, "terrible4u", "what can i do?", and "say that!", which quickly made waves across regional streaming platforms. 

The releases landed on high-visibility playlists and introduced Luke's music to a new generation of listeners, particularly across Southeast Asia. 

Since his return, his steady output and emotional transparency have resonated deeply, reaffirming his place within the contemporary pop and R&B landscape.

Today, he boasts over 2.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify and recently ranked among the top 100 progressive R&B artists globally (Chartmetric). 

His strongest audience continues to be in Southeast Asia, with top listener markets including Indonesia (No. 2), the Philippines (No.3), Malaysia (No. 4), Thailand (No. 6), Taiwan (No. 8), and Singapore (No. 10).
