ZAMBOANGA CITY – A group of fishermen were rescued from a distressed vessel in the sea of Barangay Baluno, Isabela City, Basilan on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
The Philippine Coast Guard station in Malamawi reported that the boat was loaded with ice chests filled with fish and were on their way to Isabela City from Zamboanga City when they encountered rough sea.
Water began to enter their boat and the fishermen had to unload 14 ice chests filled with fish to prevent the boat from sinking.
The Philippine Coast Guard towed the distressed boat towards their station in Malamawi and provided first aid to two injured fishermen.
The victims were taken to the Basilan Medical Center for assessment.
