'Basyang' may weaken into LPA within 12 hours, says PAGASA

Tropical Depression Basyang (international name: Penha) may weaken into a low-pressure area within the next 12 hours as it continues to move over Central Visayas, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday, Feb. 6.
As of 4 p.m., the center of Basyang was located over the vicinity of Dauis, Bohol.
The storm had maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 75 kph, and was moving west-southwestward at 15 kph.
PAGASA said Basyang made its initial landfall over Bayabas, Surigao del Norte at 11:50 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5, and made another landfall over Jagna, Bohol at 11 a.m. on Friday.
On the forecast track, the center of Basyang may make another landfall over the southern portions of Cebu and Negros Oriental between Friday and early Saturday morning, Feb. 7.
Afterward, it will head toward the southern portion of Panay Island or over Panay Gulf.
PAGASA said Basyang is temporarily moving west-southwestward but is expected to eventually shift to a generally west-northwestward direction during the forecast period.
As of the 5 p.m. bulletin, tropical cyclone wind signal number 1 remains hoisted over the southern portion of Occidental Mindoro (San Jose, Magsaysay, Rizal, Calintaan, Sablayan), the southern portion of Oriental Mindoro (Mansalay, Bulalacao, Gloria, Pinamalayan, Bansud, Bongabong, Roxas), Romblon, the northern portion of Palawan (Taytay, El Nido, Dumaran, Araceli, Roxas) including Cuyo Islands, Cagayancillo Islands, and Calamian Islands, the southern portion of Masbate (Balud, Mandaon, Milagros, Esperanza, Placer, Cawayan), the southern portion of Eastern Samar (Guiuan, Salcedo, Mercedes, Giporlos, Balangiga, Lawaan, Quinapondan, General Macarthur, Hernani, Llorente, Balangkayan, City of Borongan, Maydolong), the southern portion of Samar (Marabut, Basey, Santa Rita, Daram, Talalora, Zumarraga, Villareal, Pinabacdao, Calbiga), Guimaras, Iloilo, Capiz, Antique including Caluya Islands, Aklan, Biliran, Bohol, Cebu, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Siquijor, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Norte, Misamis Oriental, the northern portion of Misamis Occidental (Plaridel, Baliangao, Calamba, Lopez Jaena, Sapang Dalaga, Aloran, Oroquieta City), Camiguin, and the northern portion of Zamboanga del Norte (Rizal, Sibutad, La Libertad, Dapitan City, Mutia, Piñan, Dipolog City, Polanco).
PAGASA said minimal to minor impacts from strong winds are possible in areas under Signal No. 1.
