27,600 kilos of illegally butchered meat seized in Davao City
DAVAO CITY – The Davao City Veterinarian’s Office (CVO) confiscated more than 27,600 kilograms of illegally slaughtered meat last year, officials reported Friday.
Acting City Veterinarian Dr. Gay Pallar said they also seized 503 kilograms of illegally caught fish in 2025 during regular market inspections.
She said the CVO enforces the Food Safety Act of 2013 to protect consumers.
“We should not purchase meat or fish with uncertain origin, especially meat that were not from slaughterhouses, because while these might be inexpensive, it is dangerous to the health of our families,” Pallar said in an interview.
She urged the public to buy only from stalls displaying official meat and fish inspection certificates.
They also reported that its Red Tide Laboratory tested and certified 378,630 kilograms of mussels as safe for consumption last year. (PNA)
