Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso presents suspect Ramil Fernandez y Ocampo, alias “Boy Paldo,” during the live broadcast of “Talk To The People” on Wednesday, Feb. 4, following his arrest in connection with the viral theft incident along Capulong Street in Tondo.
Police have arrested a man who went viral on social media for allegedly stealing copper from a moving truck along Capulong Street in Tondo, Manila, on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
The suspect, identified as Ramil Fernandez, alias “Boy Paldo,” 20, a resident of Barangay 108, was presented to Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno" Domagoso during the city’s live broadcast program “Talk To The People” on Wednesday.
Fernandez was arrested at around 12:30 p.m. by operatives of the Manila Police District–Raxabago Police Station during a follow-up operation along Capulong Street, where he was reportedly playing cara y cruz when police moved in.
Police said Fernandez became the subject of a manhunt after a netizen posted a video showing him climbing onto a truck and allegedly stealing copper materials while the vehicle was traversing Capulong Street.
The video quickly circulated on social media, prompting swift police action.
Authorities said the arrest was carried out just two days after the incident went viral, in line with the city government’s “Bilis Kilos” campaign aimed at rapid response to criminal incidents.
Police are still tracking down a second suspect known as alias “Jumong,” who is believed to be Fernandez’s cohort in the incident.
Fernandez has been placed under inquest proceedings.
City officials reiterated that there is no room for criminality in Manila and assured the public that authorities will continue to act swiftly against threats to public order and safety.
