THE Coast Guard District Southern Visayas is on heightened alert for the impact of tropical storm "Basyang" in Negros Island Region (NIR). (CGDSV)
BACOLOD CITY – A total of 759 passengers, drivers, and helpers were stranded in various seaports in Negros Island Region (NIR) on Thursday, Feb. 5, due to tropical storm "Basyang."
The Coast Guard District Southern Visayas (CGDSV) monitored 490 stranded passengers in northern Negros Occidental, 94 in Negros Oriental, and 175 in Siquijor.
Twenty-seven vessels and 252 rolling cargoes were also stranded and 11 other vessels are taking shelter.
Twenty vessels were stranded in Negros Occidental, six in Negros Oriental, and one in Siquijor.
The Coast Guard Southern and Northern Negros Occidental temporarily suspended sea trips due to Basyang while the province was placed under Signal No. 1.
The CGDSV reminded the riding public, coastal communities, and fisherfolks not to venture out to sea to prevent untoward incidents.
The CGDSV is on heightened alert and has activated their Deployable Response Group (DRG) for the impact of Basyang.
All response teams are equipped with essential gear and equipment are on standby ready for immediate deployment.
