The Malabon City government, in coordination with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), conducted barangay-level cleanup and safety activities on Thursday, Feb. 5, to improve environmental conditions and public safety in the city.
Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, MMDA Chairman Romando Artes, and MMDA General Manager Undersecretary Nicolas Torre III led the activities, which were held under the MMDA’s Bayanihan sa Barangay program.
The initiative covered several roads and waterways in Malabon and focused on cleanliness, flood prevention, and road safety, while encouraging community participation in environmental protection.
Cleanup operations were carried out along Pinagsabugan Creek in Barangay Longos and Letre Creek in Barangay Tonsuya.
Tree trimming, misting operations, and pavement marking were also conducted in selected areas.
To enhance road safety, the MMDA installed road signs along C4 Road in Barangay Tanong and on streets near the City of Malabon University.
A mobile materials recovery facility was stationed along P. Aquino Road to promote waste segregation and recycling, while information drives on solid waste management, anti-littering, anti-vaping and smoking, disaster preparedness, and traffic management were held for residents.
Emergency response demonstrations and one-stop shop services were also made available during the activity.
Sandoval said the city will continue to strengthen partnerships with national agencies and organizations to sustain environmental programs at the barangay level.
“Habang patuloy nating pinaiigting ang pagpapatupad ng mga programa para sa kalinisan at pangangalaga ng kalikasan dito sa lungsod, mas lalo pa nating palalakasin ang pakikipag-ugnayan at pakikipagtulungan sa mga pambansang ahensya at iba’t ibang organisasyon upang mas maging epektibo at pangmatagalan ang ating mga inisyatiba (As we continue to strengthen the implementation of programs for cleanliness and environmental protection in the city, we will further enhance our coordination and cooperation with national agencies and various organizations to ensure that our initiatives are more effective and sustainable),” she said.
“Kaya naman patuloy ang ating paghikayat sa ating mga kababayan na makilahok sa mga aktibidad sa pagpapanatili ng kalinisan na nagtitiyak ng maayos na kalusugan ng bawat pamilyang Malabueño (That is why we continue to encourage our residents to take part in cleanliness initiatives that help ensure the good health of every Malabueño family),” Sandoval added.
The MMDA, together with the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), the Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), and the City Engineering Department (CED), is set to conduct similar activities in other areas of the city in the coming months.
City Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete thanked the MMDA and highlighted the importance of public participation in ensuring the long-term success of the programs
“Lubos na pasasalamat sa MMDA para sa pagpapatupad ng programang ito. Ang tagumpay ng ating mga programa ay nakasalalay sa aktibong pakikiisa ng bawat mamamayan (We extend our deepest thanks to the MMDA for implementing this program. The success of our initiatives depends on the active participation of every citizen),” he said
“Sa tulong ng ating mga katuwang na ahensya at organisasyon, patuloy naming sisikapin na maihatid ang mga programang may konkretong epekto at pangmatagalang benepisyo para sa Malabon (With the support of our partner agencies and organizations, we will continue working to deliver programs with concrete impact and long-term benefits for Malabon),” Rosete added.
