Two suspected robbers were arrested after they were caught in the act of robbing two students along R-10 in Delpan, Tondo, Manila, police said.
The suspects were apprehended by patrolling officers of the Manila Police District Station 12, led by Station Commander Lt. Col. Francis Balais, during a routine patrol in the area.
Police said the incident happened while PS-12 duty officer Lt. Ferdinand Omli was inspecting beat patrollers when they noticed a commotion along the roadside of R-10.
When Omli, together with members of the Tactical Motorcycle Riding Unit (TMRU), identified as PSSG Jack Daniel Saligumba, Patrolman Jerome Castillo, and Patrolman MJ Candielario, shouted and moved in, the two student victims managed to break free from the suspects.
A brief chase ensued, resulting in the swift arrest of the two suspects. Police were able to recover a mobile phone reportedly taken from the victims.
According to the precinct investigator, the victims said the suspects suddenly emerged from behind a parked truck and forcibly dragged them.
The suspects allegedly threatened the students with a bladed weapon and took a mobile phone from one victim, while a pair of Jordan slippers was taken from the other.
The disturbance caught the attention of the patrolling officers, leading to the suspects’ immediate arrest.
Police said the bladed weapon and the slippers were possibly discarded by the suspects during the chase.
The arrest, police said, underscores the effectiveness of intensified police patrols in the area, in line with the city government’s public safety program under Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno" Domagoso, particularly along major thoroughfares such as R-10 in Tondo.
The suspects are currently detained and are facing robbery charges.
