BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development-13 (Caraga) has activated Quick Response Teams (QRT) for tropical cyclone “Basyang.”
It is coordinating with local disaster risk reduction and management offices in different local government units to ensure that enough relief resources are prepositioned in DSWD warehouses.
“We assure the public that the DSWD is prepared to face the effects of storm Basyang. We have already coordinated with our field offices and they ensured us that there are sufficient relief items and mode of transportation for the delivery of goods in the areas that will be hit,” the DSWD-13 said.
“We advise possible affected residents to remain vigilant and to continue to coordinate with local disaster response offices for important advisories and preparatory measures for the landfall of Basyang,” it added.
Regional and local disaster councils held an online emergency meeting to discuss responses to Basyang’s possible impact on the region.
Local government units in Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte, and Dinagat Islands have activated their Emergency Operations Centers and classes in the three provinces were suspended.
The city government of Tandag has prohibited outdoor tourism, sailing, and all activities in seas, rivers, and beaches.
Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (DRRMCs) in Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte, including Siargao Islands, have been mobilized.
The Philippine Coast Guard suspended sea travel in Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Siargao Islands.
