Around 3,000 people living along waterways and danger zones in Quezon City are expected to have safe and decent homes as the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) vowed to build medium-rise buildings as part of the mass housing program for informal settler families (ISFs).
The construction of the condominium-type housing is stipulated in the agreement signed by the DHSUD and the Quezon City government on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
“The projects are intended to benefit around 2,900 individuals living along waterways and danger zones within Quezon City. Necessary utility systems such as roads, power, drainage, and water distribution shall likewise be included in the said projects,” said DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling.
The projects is the latest of the rental housing projects in the country---the first is the Marilag Residences located in UP Diliman Campus which is expected to benefit at least 3,000 individuals.,
Aliling said the initial site works for the Marilag Residences have already started.
According to Aliling, the agreement with the Quezon City government was the result of last year’s exploratory meeting with Mayor Joy Belmonte.
Apart from the three rental housing projects in Quezon City, similar project modalities are slated to start soon in the cities of Victorias and Iloilo in the Visayas.
Aliling also stressed that mass housing under the Marcos administration also has housing modalities for the working class, through its attached agency Pag-IBIG Fund which offers the lowest interest rate for beneficiaries.
