A congressman linked to anomalous flood control projects has resigned from the House of Representatives.
House Deputy Majority Leader Leyte 3rd district Rep. Anna Victoria Veloso-Tuazon, in a manifestation during plenary session Wednesday, Feb. 4, announced that ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Edvic Yap had resigned.
"Mr. Speaker for the information of the body, we are in receipt of a letter from Rep. Edvic Yap of ACT-CIS party-list informing the House of Representatives of his resignation as member of the House," Veloso-Tuazon said.
"In view of the resignation of Rep. Edvic Yap may we request that the Secretary General be directed to drop Rep. Yap from the roll of members of the House of Representatives," she said in a subsequent motion.
The presiding officer at that time, Deputy Speaker Lanao del Sur 2nd district Rep. Yasser Alonto Balindong, carried the motion after hearing no objections from the 300-plus strong legislative chamber.
ACT-CIS Party-list is expected to name a nominee to replace Yap.
Yap is a vice chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations in the current 20th Congress.
The Court of Appeals (CA) had earlier issued a freeze order on the assets of Yap and his sibling. Benguet Rep. Eric Yap. They are reportedly associated with Silverwolves Construction Corporation, which is allegedly behind anomalous flood control projects in La Union in Northern Luzon.
