Nine individuals, including the driver, were killed after a local government-owned truck they were riding plunged into a ravine in Barangay Kalamtukan, Bayawan City, Negros Oriental on Wednesday.
Police Capt. Stephen Polinar, spokesperson of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOrPPO), said that the truck was delivering oil and gasoline to the mountains for some government vehicles.
The number of occupants in the truck were not immediately known but nine have so far been confirmed dead.
“The truck came from Barangay Manduao and was traversing the road in Sitio Mansintak, Barangay Kalamtukan, when its brakes malfunctioned, causing it to lose control and fall off the cliff into a river,” Polinar said.
Though still subject for further verification, authorities identified the fatalities as truck driver Egmedio Arnaiz, Diomedes Canoy, Kervin Andog, Larry Llamos, Ronel Cabasag, Jonathan Hamor, Jovanie Babor, Jonaryl Caguisa, and Warren Aseñas, all employees of the Bayawan City LGU.
