The local government of Manila has called on residents to actively participate in maintaining a clean environment to help prevent flooding and protect public health.
Residents raised concerns over foul odors, clogged waterways, and potential health hazards caused by the accumulated waste.
In response to the situation, the Department of Environment and Public Services (DEPS) immediately carried out an intensive cleanup operation in the affected area.
The appeal follows complaints about floating garbage along the river in Barangay 94.
Authorities collected approximately 100 sacks of waste, including debris, plastic bags, plastic cups, diapers, and other types of garbage.
The operation aimed to remove the accumulated trash, restore cleanliness, and ensure the proper flow of water in the river.
The Manila local government reminded the public that dumping waste into rivers and other waterways is strictly prohibited.
Officials urged residents to practice proper waste disposal by using designated trash containers, emphasizing that community cooperation is essential to keeping waterways clean and preventing flooding.
