The husband of the late policewoman Police Senior Master Sergeant (PSMS) Diane Marie Mollenido who was murdered along with her son has been placed under restrictive custody, according to Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla.

Remulla said in a press conference on Tuesday, Feb. 3, that even if the crime was declared “case closed”, the victim’s husband PSMS John Mollenido remains a “person of interest.”

He explained that Mollenido’s suspicious actions are factor to the Philippine National Police’s decision.

“Pinilit niyang macremate kaagad yung asawa niya, with yung clothes niya… Eh pulis siya, dapat alam niya. Pangalawa, noong interview parang wala Siyang remorse, imagine mo yung anak mo namatay, hindi ka iiyak, wala kang… parang balewala sa kanya. So we’re taking further into the possible angle na kasama yung asawa niya (He insisted on cremating his wife immediately, with her clothes… He’s a police officer, he should know. Secondly, during the interview he seemed to have no remorse, imagine your child dying, you wouldn’t cry, you wouldn’t have… it seemed like he didn’t care. So we’re taking further into the possible angle that his wife was involved),” he said.

Mollenido’s lawyer, Cristobal Rimando said his client “voluntarily submitted himself” to the authorities as they were investigating the crime.

Four other suspects were taken into custody by the police in connection to the crime, including the car agent and her husband.

The victims were reported missing on Jan. 16 after leaving their home in Taguig City.

They were last seen in a sports utility vehicle (SUV) which was going to be sold by the slain cop.

Remulla concluded that the crime stemmed from a fake car deal and pointed to the suspects as the perpetrators of the crime.
