A father and his son were arrested for allegedly beating and stabbing a man to death in Barangay Kay-Buto, Tanay, Rizal on Sunday, Feb. 1.
According to the Tanay Municipal Police Station (Tanay MPS), the incident occurred after the 48-year-old victim, identified as “Joel,” encountered “Jojo,” one of the two suspects, on Macarulay Street at around 12:05 p.m.
Prior to their encounter, police said the victim and the suspect's son had been involved in a verbal altercation several days earlier.
The dispute reportedly began after the victim told the suspect's son to lock the chain of his motorcycle, which he allegedly refused to do.
The victim allegedly threatened the suspect’s son with a stabbing, which the latter told his father.
Upon seeing each other, Joel and Jojo got into a verbal altercation over the prior dispute which escalated violently after Joel allegedly drew a bladed weapon and attempted to stab Jojo.
The suspect, who was also armed with a knife, retaliated and stabbed the victim multiple times.
His son subsequently arrived at the scene and reportedly assisted his father by punching and restraining the victim.
Joel was immediately rushed to Tanay General Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.
The incident was reported by the victim's sister, prompting authorities to conduct a pursuit operation, which resulted in the arrest of the father and his son.
They are now detained at the Tanay MPS custodial facility and will face murder charges.
