BACOLOD CITY – Police arrested on Monday a couple who allegedly killed their neighbor in Barangay Cabacungan, La Castellana, Negros Occidental, almost a year after the incident last March.
Police Major Romulo Gepilango, La Castellana police chief, said that a warrant of arrest for murder dated Jan. 16, 2026, was served against the couple—50-year-old Junior and his 49-year-old wife.
No bail was recommended by the Regional Trial Court Branch 63 in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.
Gepilango said that Junior was tagged as ninth most wanted person in Negros Island Region (NIR) while his wife was classified as eighth most wanted person in the region.
Police said all three suspects involved in the fatal incident have been arrested. The couple denied involvement in the crime.
First to be arrested was a 29-year-old laborer, tagged as second most wanted person in the region, last Jan. 29.
Police Capt. Jose Michael Muñez, deputy chief of the La Castellana Municipal Police Station, said the three suspects were identified by a witness.
The three suspects were on their way home from a drinking session when they figured in an altercation with the victim over a misunderstanding.
They allegedly killed the victim and his decomposing body was found dumped in a sugarcane field on March 22, 2025.
