Alternergy energizes 28-MWp Bataan solar plant, expands RE portfolio
Renewable energy (RE) firm Alternergy Holdings Corp. announced that it has switched on its first clean power project for the year in Hermosa, Bataan, which is capable of supplying electricity to large commercial and industrial consumers.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) on Tuesday, Feb. 3, Alternergy said its subsidiary, Solana Solar Alpha Inc. (SSAI), has energized the 28-megawatt-peak (MWp) Balsik solar power plant, which is expected to avoid around 31,000 tons of carbon emissions annually.
Alternergy President Gerry P. Magbanua said the plant’s commencement of operations would kick off the expansion of the company’s growing solar portfolio this year, with three more projects expected to be energized in 2026.
“It will generate 45,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of RE annually and directly provide power to industrial and commercial customers in support of their sustainability initiatives,” he said.
The facility has completed its testing and commissioning phase and has received the final certificate of authority to connect (FCATC) from National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP).
The solar project is connected to NGCP’s Hermosa substation through a 300-meter, 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission line.
“During 2026, we are inaugurating four projects across our triple-play portfolio of solar, wind, and hydro resource technologies, with a total combined capacity of 225 MW,” Magbanua added. “Alternergy’s core strength lies in building power projects from pre-development through the commercial phase. This is most evident as we bring four projects online and begin generating a steady flow of revenues for the company starting this year.”
Last year, the solar farm secured about ₱1.8 billion in financing from Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC) to help develop the project.
Alternergy is currently developing additional solar and solar battery projects under the fourth round of the Green Energy Auction (GEA-4) of the Department of Energy (DOE). Its awarded projects under the auction have a combined capacity of 240 MWp.
Other projects expected to complete development this year include the 4.6-MW Dupinga run-of-river hydropower facility, the 64-MW Alabat wind project, and the 128-MW Tanay wind project.
These developments form part of Alternergy’s goal of reaching a total installed capacity of 500 MW.
