A 29-year-old parolee and a 24-year-old criminology student were killed in a shootout between two men onboard a motorcycle and the police in Barangay Gulod, Novaliches, Quezon City, last Feb. 1, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) reported Tuesday, Feb. 3.
Based on the police investigation, the parolee was just released from prison after being jailed for illegal drugs.
As he was cruising onboard his motorcycle, the motorcycle-riding men intercepted the victim and fired shots at him, killing him instantly.
Responding policemen immediately pursued the escaping suspects, with the backrider firing shots at the authorities, prompting them to return fire.
Police said one of the suspects were hit by the officers.
Novaliches Police Station 4 station commander Lt. Col. Michael John Nerona Villanueva said they are currently coordinating with hospitals and other health facilities in the area where the injured suspect could be brought to.
Meanwhile, a criminology student working at a funeral parlor was reportedly killed after being caught in the crossfire between the riding-in-tandem suspects and the police.
“Later on, naka-receive kami ng report na mayroon daw isang victim na tinamaan ng bala at kalaunan ay ikinamatay nito kaya nagka-conduct rin kami ng investigation regarding din doon sa nangyaring police response. Actually, those police officers involved are currently in restrictive custody (Later on, we received a report that a victim was shot and later died, so we also conducted an investigation regarding the police response that occurred. Actually, those police officers involved are currently in restrictive custody)," Villanueva said.
The police are still investigating the incident.
