Manila health centers receive new ECG machines, office equipment from city gov't
A total of 100 electrocardiogram (ECG) machines, 100 laptops, and 100 printers were turned over by the Manila City Government to its 44 health centers on Monday, Feb. 2, as part of its expanded efforts in strengthening the city's frontline healthcare services and operational efficiency.
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno" Domagoso led the turnover ceremony at the Manila City Hall together with Vice Mayor Chi Atienza, City Health Officer Dr. Grace Padilla, Assistant City Health Officer Dr. Ed Santos, and the heads and pharmacists of the beneficiary health centers.
Domagoso said the distribution was prompted by the condition of equipment he personally observed during visits to health facilities, particularly diagnostic tools already showing signs of wear.
“Pag binibisita ko kayo sa health center, pag na-cha-chamba ko may Scotch tape na yung iba ninyong ECG machine. At least you have now extra, dalawa bawat isang health center. Kwarenta’y kuwatro kayo. Tapos may itatabi pa tayong konting natira kung may nasira, kasi matagal ang akusisyon (During my visits to your health centers, I noticed that some of your ECG machines are held together with Scotch tape. Now, you're going to have two machines per health center. There are 44 health centers here in Manila, and we will keep the excess machines in case something breaks because the acquisition process for these takes a long time)," Domagoso explained.
He also noted the need to upgrade the facilities' office equipment, as some health centers still use outdated computer systems, severely hampering their daily operations.
“Some of you have requested tools and equipment for your health center. I just want you to feel that your city's leadership is always listening to you and is gradually trying to improve its spending to try to address as many requests as it can. As cash continues to come in, we will make sure to spend it efficiently and convert it into proper services," he added.
Domagoso also assured health center heads of his trust and urged them to remain focused on public service, saying frontline healthcare workers play a critical role both before and after hospital treatment.
"I assure all 44 of you health center heads that you have my full trust and confidence. Please continue to perform your duties to the people, as you are the frontline of healthcare in the city," he stressed.
The mayor emphasized that healthcare remains a priority under the city’s Minimum Basic Needs (MBN) framework, which guides how public funds are allocated.
“MBN: Ano yang MBN? Housing, education, healthcare, and jobs. Yun lang. Malaking bulto ng pananalapi ng pamahalaan galing sa taong bayan ay ilalaan to address this. Because if we are going to be successful addressing this, tataas ang kalidad ng pamumuhay ng ating mga kababayan. The biggest portion is to invest in the people. Ayan ang purpose ng MBN (MBN: What is MBN? Housing, education, healthcare, and jobs. That's it. A large portion of government funds from the people will be allocated to address this. Because if we are going to be successful addressing this, the quality of life of our countrymen will greatly improve. The biggest portion is to invest in the people. That's the purpose of MBN)," he explained.
Domagoso ended the event by expressing his gratitude to all of the city's health workers for their service as he assured them that the city government would continue working alongside them to improve Manila's public healthcare delivery.
