BACOLOD CITY – A couple was killed in a collision between their tricycle and Sports Utility Vehicle in Barangay Camba-og, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental on Sunday, Feb. 1.
The victims were a 49-year-old fish vendor and his live-in partner from Pontevedra, Negros Occidental.
Investigation said the tricycle avoided a barricade and was hit by the SUV driven by a student, 23.
The victims landed on the pavement and were taken to a hospital where they were declared dead.
The SUV driver was released from police custody after the lapse of the reglementary period.
Police Lt. Col. Jovil Sedel, Hinigaran police chief, said the driver and the victims’ family have initially met but the latter have yet to decide if they will file a case.
Meanwhile, an 83-year-old widow was hit by a pickup truck while crossing a road in front of a gasoline station in Barangay Sum-ag here on Saturday night, Jan. 31.
The victim sustained severe injuries and passed away in a hospital.
Police Major Elmer Bonilla, head of the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU), said the pickup truck driver was released from police custody on Monday night, Feb. 2, after the lapse of the reglementary period, as the victim’s family is currently attending to her funeral.
