BACOLOD CITY – Police Col. Timmar Alam was named officer-in-charge of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office on Monday, Feb. 2.
Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, director of the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), presided over the turnover ceremony at the Negros Oriental police headquarters in Sibulan, Negros Oriental.
Gov. Manuel “Chaco” Sagarbarria graced the event and urged Alam and all police chiefs to step up their efforts in the campaign against illegal drugs.
He emphasized the need for strong, coordinated, and consistent actions, calling on all units to work hand-in-hand to build a safer and better province.
Ibay said that the occasion is not just a leadership transition but also a renewed covenant of service to the people of Negros Oriental.
He expressed full confidence in Alam’s leadership, citing his professionalism and ability to lead with firmness and compassion amid evolving challenges.
Alam was the chief of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division before his assignment to Norppo.
He replaced Police Col. Lito Patay, deputy regional director for operations of PRO-NIR, as officer-in-charge of Norppo for almost a month, following the relief of Police Col. Criscente Tiguelo due to the deaths of three policemen, including a police chief, and a civilian by a police officer in Sibulan on Jan. 9.
