Suspect in shooting of former barangay kagawad arrested in Sampaloc

Police have arrested the suspect behind the shooting of a former barangay kagawad in Sampaloc, Manila, the Manila Police District (MPD) said.

According to Sampaloc Police Station (PS-4), the suspect was apprehended late Friday, Jan. 30, following a follow-up operation conducted by personnel of the Lacson Police Community Precinct (PCP) and the station’s Warrant Section.

The shooting incident occurred at around 2:15 p.m. on the same day.

Police said responding officers immediately launched an operation after the former barangay official was shot.

The suspect was arrested at about 10:45 p.m. and was promptly informed of his constitutional rights as an accused.

Authorities said the suspect underwent medical examination and paraffin testing before being subjected to inquest proceedings at the Manila City Hall.

Police did not immediately disclose the identity of the suspect nor the condition of the victim as the investigation continues.

The MPD said appropriate criminal charges are being prepared against the suspect in connection with the shooting.
