A popular travel and motorcycle vlogger – Mamaw Moto – was killed in an accident on Villa Verde Road, Barangay Santa Maria East, San Nicolas, Pangasinan, on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 1.
Police identified the victim as Chester Masiglat, 32, of Barangay Tobor, Malasiqui, Pangasinan.
Investigation said Chester was driving his black Yamaha YZF-R3 motorcycle at high speed on a descending and curved portion of the road when he suddenly lost control, veered into the opposite lane, hit the gutter, tumbled, and slammed into a cyclone wire fence on the roadside.
The victim was taken by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) to the hospital where he was declared dead.
Police noted that Chester was wearing a protective helmet and tested negative for intoxicating liquor at the time of the incident.
The damaged motorcycle was taken to the San Nicolas Police Station for proper disposition.
Chester gained a following on social media for his travel and riding vlogs under the name Mamaw Moto.
A day before the accident on Saturday, Chester attended a content creators’ awards night at Robinsons Calasiao on Saturday, making his sudden death more heartbreaking for fellow vloggers and supporters.
Photos of the event were posted on his Facebook pages.
News of Mamaw Moto’s passing quickly spread online, prompting an outpouring of tributes from fans, riders, and members of the local content creator community who remembered him for his passion for travel and the road.
Authorities reminded motorists to observe road safety measures, especially when traversing curved and downhill roads.
