Filipino singer Arabelle Dela Cruz declared winner on Korean TV show 'Veiled Cup'

Singer Arabelle Dela Cruz (aka Laguna Diva”) from the Philippines was declared the winner on the Korean TV singing contest “Veiled Cup.” 

The fourth and final episode of the TV show aired on Feb. 1 on Korean channel SBS with emcee Lee Da-hee and judges Tiffany Young, 10cm’s Kwon Jung-yeol, Ailee, Paul Kim, Henry Lau and Miyeon. 

The top five contestants competed. They were Dela Cruz (Laguna Diva), Thailand’s Bangkok Soul Man and Phang Nga Bay Fighter, Laos’ Vientiane Red Hair and South Korea’s Gyeongsang-do Iron Voice. 

Dela Cruz performed Michael Buble's "Feeling Good" and got a total score of 485 from the judges, including Tiffany Young who gave her a perfect score of 100. 

When the final results were revealed, Dela Cruz took first place with a total converted score of 7,137 points: 4,850 points from judges’ scores (50 percent), 1,034 points from live vote score (20 percent), 544 points from global online cumulative voting score (20 percent), and 709 points for music vote score (10 percent). 

Thailand’s Phang Nga Bay Fighter (6,064 points) placed second followed by Thailand’s Bangkok Soul Man (5,058 points),  South Korea’s Gyeongsang-do Iron Voice (5,046), and Laos’ Vientiane Red Hair (4,817 points).

The Philippines was also represented by Garrett Bolden (Zambales Beast) and Thea Astley (Manila Storyteller). 

Other countries that competed in South Korea were China, Indonesia, Japan, Mongolia, and Vietnam. 

Last month, Filipino singer Gwyn Dorado competed in the finals and placed second on the Korean TV singing competition “Sing Again 4.”
