A 62-year-old senior citizen was injured after being stabbed by a pedicab driver following a dispute over a P50 passenger fare in Barangay 746, Malate, Manila, on Thursday, Jan. 29.
The Manila Police District (MPD) said the incident began at a tricycle and pedicab terminal when a passenger boarded the tricycle driven by the victim, despite a pedicab driver being first in line.
Police said the missed fare, reportedly worth P50, triggered an argument between the two drivers.
The pedicab driver, a 63-year-old man, allegedly confronted the victim, and the altercation later escalated into a stabbing.
Authorities said the victim sustained a chest injury.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed the suspect walking along Espiritu Street minutes before the incident. He was later seen on camera carrying a knife, although the actual stabbing was not captured on video.
In another footage, it showed the victim already wounded and walking away from the terminal to seek help.
Barangay officials rushed the victim to a hospital for treatment.
A village official said the stabbing stemmed from the suspect’s anger over losing a P50 fare, describing the incident as an argument that quickly turned violent.
The suspect fled after the incident, but a bystander was able to recover the knife allegedly used in the stabbing.
Police have launched a manhunt operation to locate the suspect, while the victim remains under medical care.
