Police track down riders behind viral motorcycle stunt on Commonwealth Avenue
Authorities have identified the motorcycle riders responsible for a viral video showing a dangerous “Superman stunt” along Commonwealth Avenue, in Quezon City.
The incident occurred on Monday, Jan. 26.
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD), through its District Traffic Enforcement Unit, launched a verification and follow-up operation following the video's widespread circulation on social media.
Working with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), investigators traced one of the motorcycles—a Honda Beat—to its registered owner in Barangay 183, North Caloocan.
According to police, the owner told authorities he had left the motorcycle in the care of a woman identified only as “Marites” while he was traveling to Tacloban, Leyte, and denied knowledge that it would be used for a risky roadside stunt.
Subsequent discussions involved the owner, the woman, her 16-year-old son, and another 16-year-old out-of-school youth, who admitted to performing the maneuver while on their way to a friend’s birthday celebration.
Police later located and identified two more riders who were seen accompanying the group during the incident.
The motorcycle used in the stunt has been impounded at the LTO Main Office, and a Temporary Operator’s Permit was issued for reckless driving.
Authorities said another motorcycle involved could no longer be recovered after it was dismantled and sold before police action.
The LTO Central Office has also issued a Show Cause Order against the registered owner and the individuals involved, requiring them to appear for investigation and possible administrative penalties on Friday, Jan. 30.
Records further showed that the motorcycle’s registered owner had previously been involved in several vehicular incidents.
QCPD Acting District Director PCOL Randy Glenn Silvio warned that such behavior poses serious risks to the public, stressing that traffic violations caught on video will be pursued and acted upon.
