Marikina police proactively monitor social media, urge residents to report crimes

In today’s digital age, where almost everything is posted on social media, including crimes and incidents that often go unreported, the Marikina police are taking a proactive approach to ensure residents’ safety and address incidents promptly to prevent them from happening again.

In an interview with the PaMaMariSan-Rizal Press Corps on Thursday, Jan. 29, Marikina City Police Station (Marikina CPS) Officer-in-Charge Col. Jenny DC Tecson said that they have directives to personnel to monitor online posts about Marikina residents’ concerns.
She said that personnel are instructed to immediately visit residents to encourage them to report any crime or incident, so cases can be promptly investigated and resolved, helping prevent recurrence and further victimization.
“Kailangan nating mag reklamo at mag report para hindi na maulit-ulit pa at makapagbigay ng hustisya at hindi na mabiktima pa ang mga naging biktima (We need to file complaints and reports to prevent incidents from happening repeatedly, ensure justice, and protect those who have already been victimized),” she said.
Tecson further urged the community to actively support police initiatives and maintain close cooperation with law enforcement, emphasizing that public partnership is vital in sustaining peace and order in the city.
Community engagement
Despite some unreported incidents in the city, the chief mentioned that the city continues to maintain a generally peaceful and orderly environment. She attributed this to the sustained efforts of the Marikina City Police Station in crime prevention, law enforcement, and community engagement.
She also expressed her sincere appreciation to the local government for its continued and unwavering support, emphasizing that the LGU’s cooperation significantly contributes to the effective implementation of police programs, projects, and activities.
Welfare of police personnel
Aside from keeping the community safe, Tecson also mentioned that it is important to strengthen the morale, welfare, and discipline of police personnel.
She highlighted her extended program, Project BISITA AKAP-AGAP, a sustained personnel care initiative focused on regular consultations, home visits, and wellness-oriented engagements for police officers.
However, while prioritizing personnel welfare, she stated that discipline and accountability remain essential, reiterating that any form of misconduct or negligence within the police ranks will not be tolerated.
She said police officers are expected to carry out their duties wherever needed, following their mandate and doing what is right.
