Vice President Sara Duterte has accused members of the House of Representatives of abusing the impeachment process after the Supreme Court (SC) upheld its decision of declaring the complaint filed against her as unconstitutional.
“Yes, unang pasalamat ko sa Diyos… Pangalawang pasasalamat ko ay sa mga abogado na nagtulong-tulong para kwestyunin yung pag-abuso ng proseso ng impeachment ng (Yes, first, my thanks go to God… My second thanks go to the lawyers who worked together to question the abuse of the impeachment process by) House of Representatives,” Duterte said in an interview at The Hague on Thursday, Jan. 29.
“At pangatlo, ay yung pasalamat ko sa lahat ng kababayan na patuloy na naniniwala at nagtitiwala sa akin (And third, my thanks go to all my fellow citizens who continue to believe and place their trust in me),” she added.
The High Court on Thursday upheld its decision declaring the House’s February 2025 move to oust her as unconstitutional. Duterte’s defense team said such development proved that the matter is now “closed.”
According to the Vice President, she and her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, did not talk about the impeachment while in detention.
The last impeachment-related matter her father knew about was the first one—the one that’s already declared unconstitutional—which he even expressed interest in becoming as one of the legal counsels.
“Kanina, hindi ko na binanggit sa kanya yung denial ng motion for reconsideration doon sa kaso dahil ayaw ko na pag-usapan yung impeachment (Earlier, I didn't mention to him the denial of the motion for reconsideration regarding the case because I didn't want to talk about the impeachment anymore),” she said.
“Mas mabuti na pag-usapan ang mga bagay na mas may relevance sa buhay natin at sa bayan kaysa doon sa impeachment (It is better to talk about things that are more relevant to our lives and to the nation than that impeachment),” she added.
The Vice President also told her supporters to celebrate her victory “responsibly.”
“Don’t drink and drive. Mga kababayan, mag-celebrate kayo pero celebrate responsibly. Huwag ubusin ang pera sa bisyo at huwag magmaneho nang lasing (Don't waste the money on your vices, don't drive while drunk),” she said.
“At kung maaari ay diyan na lang kayo sa mga bahay ninyo mag-celebrate, or mag-celebrate kayo online. Mas mura yun—internet lang ang kapital ninyo, data lang (And if possible, celebrate inside your homes or online. It's cheaper. The internet is only your capital),” she added.
