Members of the House of Representatives--still black and blue from the flood control projects corruption scandal--were given a semblance of hope that they could still regain Filipinos' trust.
They just have to repent and work for it, according to Novaliches Bishop Teodoro Bacani.
“You can win [the people’s] trust again,” Bacani said in his homily during a eucharistic celebration Wednesday, Jan. 28 sponsored by the members of the House led by the office of Speaker Faustino "Bojie" Dy III.As far as Bacani is concerned, congressmen should strive to deliver to the people the service that they deserve.
“Let us remember the words of St. Francis, that it is in giving that we receive…that it is in serving that we are honored,” he said.
The flood control projects mess continues to be a hot topic in and out of Congress. Because of this issue--whether fairly or unfairly--lawmakers have been linked to anomalous insertions and fat kickbacks by common Filipinos.
Bacani advised the mass-goers--which included House members--to serve their constituencies selflessly and with love. He described it as “the road to greatness".
“If we want to build people, if we want to build society, if we want to build ourselves, we must not only serve – we must serve out of love,” he said.
Citing the biblical account of Jesus Christ forgiving Peter, the Bishop says that the Catholicism is a religion of second chances.
“Ang gusto niyang sabihin, bati na tayo, limutin na natin ang nakaraan, magbago na tayo at magkaroon tayo ng bagong samahan (What he means is, let’s reconcile, forget the past, change for the better, and build a new relationship),” he said.
The mass was part of the House of Representatives' program for spiritual and values enhancement formation.
