Don't expect House Majority Leader Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos to participate in next week's scheduled Committee on Justice hearings on the two impeachment complaints filed against President Marcos.
This, as Rep. Marcos clarified the extent of his inhibition from the proceedings involving his father.
"I have inhibited myself from the entire impeachment process involving the President," he said in a statement Thursday, Jan. 29.
"My inhibition likewise extends to the Committee on Justice, where my role is limited to an ex officio capacity by virtue of my position as majority leader," the younger Marcos bared.
An ex-officio member has voting powers just like a regular committee member.
"The Committee on Justice shall discharge its mandate independently, in full accordance with the Constitution and the rules of the House," Rep, Marcos said.
For an impeachment complaint to prosper, it must be deemed sufficient in both form and substance by the justice committee. The panel is chaired in the current 20th Congress by Batangas 2nd district Rep. Gerville "Jinky Bitrics" Luistro.
As for President Marcos' attendance to the hearings, Luistro has said that it is the respondent's prerogative whether to appear or not.
"If he will choose not to come, that will be interpreted as a waiver of his right to be present during the hearing,” she said.
Luistro said the panel will carry out hearings on the two impeachment complaints filed against the Chief Executive from Feb. 2 to 4.
