'Safe na kayo': No immediate reshuffle in PNP, Nartatez says after promotion to 4-star rank
Police Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr., chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), declared that there will be no immediate and wide-ranging reorganization despite his promotion to four-star rank and full assumption of the country’s police force.
“There is no abrupt or sweeping reshuffle. Any movement will be orderly, well-planned, and based on organizational needs,” Nartatez said as he emphasized that stability will be maintained within the organization.
He explained that existing anti-crime and community safety directives remain in place and continuity will be ensured in key operational units handling major crime, counterterrorism, and internal security
He, however, stressed that leadership movements in the organization remain part of normal police service.
“Leadership movement in the PNP is a normal process. Promotions, retirements, and operational requirements naturally result in adjustments. What’s important is that our work continues without disruption,” he said.
Nartatez also called on senior officers and rank-and-file personnel to remain focused on their mandates, stressing that discipline, professionalism, and service to the people remain the core priorities of the PNP under his leadership.
“Regardless of assignment, our duty to serve and protect remains the same. Performance, integrity, and the needs of the service will always be the basis. We are focused on ensuring the right people are in the right positions,” he said.
After five months, Nartatez finally got his four-star rank and full supervision and control of the police organization—from being a Lieutenant General and acting Chief PNP status.
He replaced Nicolas Torre III on Aug. 26 last year. The assumption of Torre as general manager of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) paved the way for Nartatez to be promoted to four-star general.
He took his oath before President Marcos in Malacañang on Jan. 28 and reaffirmed his commitment to maintain public safety, reduce crime, and continue ongoing PNP operations.
