On PNP Day, Nartatez vows to lead a reliable, trusted police force

Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr., chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), has committed to ensuring that integrity-based reforms and strategic police deployment and operations will be aggressively pushed to maximize protection of the Filipino people.
Nartatez’s assurance came in response to the order of President Marcos for the PNP to provide a “visible, disciplined, and trusted” service while emphasizing that law enforcement must remain under civilian authority.
“We take to heart the President’s call for a visible, disciplined, and trusted police service. As Chief of the PNP, I commit to ensuring that every Filipino will experience prompt, respectful, and competent police service. This includes further improving operational capability and enforcing accountability,” said Nartatez.
“We will strengthen morale and welfare because discipline and motivation are operational necessities, not privileges. We will enforce integrity at all levels because public trust is built by conduct and loss of tolerance of wrongdoing. Professionalism, discipline and integrity are not optional, they are expected,” he stressed.
Police are celebrating PNP Day on Thursday, Jan. 29. Executive Secretary Ralph Recto is expected to represent the President in a ceremony at Camp Crame.
But Marcos released on Wednesday a video message for the PNP Day celebration where he tasked the PNP aim for more “visible, disciplined, and trusted” service.
Nartatez highlighted that police work has become more demanding since its inception on Jan. 29, 1991 through Republic Act 6975 due to the evolving nature of the security environment in the country.
But he emphasized that no police official will never go wrong if the leadership and reform programs are anchored on upholding integrity and strengthening the morale and welfare of the policemen.
“My career has taught me one constant truth: policing must be firm, fair and anchored on integrity. These are not slogans, these are standards. They will guide my leadership as Chief of the Philippine National Police,” said Nartatez.
He then lauded all the PNP personnel for their efforts to deliver people-centered service and ensure public safety throughout the years.
Nartatez emphasized that the PNP remains committed to upholding peace and order while serving the Filipino people with professionalism and integrity.
