Homegrown drag queen Minty Fresh is out to make the country proud strutting her way into the newest season of RuPaul’s "Drag Race UK vs The World."
Making her debut on the international franchise of the well-known drag competition, Minty admitted there's huge pressure.
"Added pressure kasi bitbit mo yung Drag community ng Philippines, aware naman ako and yes malaking tulong si Marina and Eva kasi marami silang advice na binigay sa akin (Added pressure because you carry with you the Drag community of the Philippines, I'm aware of that and yes, Marina and Eva were a big help because they gave me a lot of advice)," Minty shared during a group interview.
Minty shared the moment when she got the call to be part of the show.
"Nung tinawagan ako ng UK, it was the time na least expected ko yung call, but nireready ko kasi yung sarili ko na baka tawagan nila ako. Pero yung time na yun kasi kakatapos lang ng season 2 and dalawa na from my batch yung lumaban internationally, so iniisip ko bakit pa kukuha from my batch (When the UK called me, it was the time I least expected the call, but I was preparing myself that they might call me. But at that time, season 2 had just finished, and two from my batch had already competed internationally, so I was thinking why would they take another one from my batch), she added.
Just like the saying goes, good things come to those who wait, and luckily for Minty, it worked for her.
"Hindi ko siya masyadong inexpect pero nung tinawagan ako, naloka talaga ako ng sobra. Galing akong night-out nun, nasa Grab ako and then ko na-receive yung call. Nawala yung lasing ko, and kinabahan rin ako kasi I made sure kung kaya ko ba (I wasn’t really expecting it, but when I got the call, I totally freaked out. I had just come from a night out that time and was already on a Grab car when I got the call. I immediately sobered up and I got nervous as well because I had to ask myself if I'm ready for it)," She added.
Competing alongside fellow Pinoy drag queens Melinda Verga and Zahirah Zapanta, Minty shared that it made the competition feel a bit more relaxed.
"It helped me a lot. Kasi, the UK is very far. Isa sa parang anxiety ko when I was there, ang layo ko sa family ko and support system ko. So, when I entered and nandun silang dalawa, it kinda felt like home, nakakapagta-Tagalog kami minsan (It helped me a lot. Because the UK is very far. One of my anxiety points when I was there was being away from my family and support system. So, when I entered, and the two were there, it kinda felt like home, we could speak Tagalog sometimes)," Minty said.
