Marikina LGU, MMDA inaugurate improved recreational park
To provide residents with safer and greener public spaces, the local government of Marikina and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) inaugurated the newly rehabilitated Jesus Dela Peña Recreational Park, offering additional open areas for children and senior citizens.
The event was led by MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes, together with Marikina Mayor Maan Teodoro, and Marikina First District Rep. Marcy Teodoro, in Barangay Jesus Dela Peña on Thursday, Jan. 29.
MMDA said the event marked the completion of a vital urban renewal project aimed at enhancing public health and community wellness in the city.
Artes said the initiative showcases the agency's continuous efforts in creating greener areas in the National Capital Region (NCR) through its partnership with the 17 local government units in the metropolis.
"This collaboration aims to provide the citizens of the City of Marikina access to a cleaner and greener environment that may improve the physical and mental health of the people as well as improve the air quality within the area and give access to a safe place for the children to explore and have fun," he explained.
He added that it is the third agency-redeveloped recreational park in the city.
Meanwhile, the mayor expressed gratitude to the MMDA for the rehabilitation and improvement project, which provides a safe public space for the city's residents.
"This is one of the parks and multi-purpose halls provided by the MMDA. There are many green spaces in Marikina where the community can play and gather together. We are looking forward to more projects like this," she said.
The MMDA designed and developed the 1,133.21-square-meter recreational park, featuring a two-storey community burial chapel, a grand clustered gazebo with concrete benches and tables, perimeter plant boxes with landscaping, and public comfort rooms.
It is also equipped with outdoor gym equipment and playset amenities for children and senior citizens in the community.
MMDA said the project is closely aligned with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s governance agenda under Bagong Pilipinas and the broader Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028, which prioritizes the creation of livable and resilient communities through the expansion of public open spaces.
