The Manila city government has rolled out new high-tech, top-of-the-line drones to improve disaster response operations and strengthen the city’s data management capabilities.
A Drone Training Simulation Exercise was conducted on Jan. 29 at Luneta Park, led by Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso together with Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) Director Arnel Angeles and other city officials.
According to MDRRMO Special Projects Section Chief Ramon Jefferson Verano, the newly acquired units — Matrice 30T, Matrice 4E, and Matrice 400- are equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, water-resistant features, and advanced systems that can support various city agencies.
Verano said the drones can be used for search-and -escue operations, large-scale mapping, damage assessment, and monitoring, particularly during emergencies and disaster situations.
City officials said the integration of the technology is expected to speed up response time during disasters while enhancing the local government’s ability to gather and manage critical data.
“With these machineries that we invested in, we are now investing for the future of the city,” Domagoso said.
