The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to finish the 4.55-kilometer segment and collapsed portions of the Metro Cebu Expressway in Naga City, Cebu, within five to six months.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said the accelerated timeline aims to end an eight-year delay that has affected thousands of daily road users, including local commuters and workers.
The expressway, which began construction in 2018, remained unfinished due to slow implementation, despite its short length and strategic importance for daily commuters, Dizon noted.
Additional equipment and personnel have been deployed to ensure the segment is completed within the set timeline.
Around 4,000 workers, including employees from the Minebea factory, rely on the expressway daily, highlighting the urgent need for timely infrastructure delivery.
Dizon also assured that the DPWH is ready to support the Cebu Provincial Government in fast-tracking larger sections of the Metro Cebu Expressway under provincial management.
He emphasized the need for reforms in project implementation to prevent prolonged delays in future infrastructure projects.
