PNP mobilizes forces to hunt down gunmen in Basilan attack on soldiers
The Philippine National Police has mobilized police forces to help the military conduct the manhunt against those involved in the gun attack on two soldiers in Tipo-Tipo, Basilan.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. said he already tasked the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region to conduct the necessary security measures to deter gun-related attacks and eventually maintain peace and order in the province.
“We are coordinating and closely working with the Armed Forces of the Philippines not only in the conduct of pursuit operations but also in initiating security measures to prevent the repeat of this incident and eventually ensure peace and order for the local residents,” said Nartatez.
Based on the initial investigation, the victims were purchasing necessities at a community store about 200 meters from the military camp when they were shot in Tipo-Tipo town on Monday.
Two members of the Philippine Army’s 45th Infantry Battalion (45IB) were injured.
Nartatez added that the police would remain on heightened alert to prevent any attacks by lawless groups.
“Our units, together with the military, are on heightened alert to prevent attacks and swiftly respond to any threat. We are committed to keeping our communities safe,” he said.
Nartatez also tasked local police forces to increase coordination and engagements with the local communities to strengthen trust and confidence of the people to their police.
