A 24-year-old Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) cadet was killed and seven others were injured in an accident on the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway in Pozorrubio, Pangasinan on Tuesday morning.
The driver of the lost control of the vehicle, a Mitsubishi Montero SUV, after its right rear tire burst.
The SUV skidded, overturned on the road, and crashed into a metal road barrier.
The seven passengers, all PMMA cadets from Mountain Province and Kalinga, were injured and taken to a hospital.
The crash caused significant damage to TPLEX infrastructure, including the metal road barrier, posts, scarified asphalt, vertical drainage openings, and a one-meter-long section of the asphalt curve. Cost of repair is yet to be determined.
Authorities are conducting follow-up investigation and reminded motorists to always exercise caution while traveling along the expressway.
