Iloilo fashion designer arrested for cyber libel

ILOILO CITY — Fashion designer Jose Clement “Jet” Salcedo was arrested for 10 counts of cyber libel against Ilongga chef Andrea Valdez Gorriceta.

Police Major Shella Mae Sangrines, spokesperson of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), confirmed that Salcedo was arrested by the ICPO Mobile Force on Wednesday morning, Jan. 28.

Salcedo's warrant dated Jan. 26, 2026 was issued by the Iloilo City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 38, six months after the Iloilo City Prosecutor’s Office found probable cause that Salcedo violated the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

The case stemmed from a series of Facebook posts made by Salcedo mostly in 2024 and spread in private messages to common friends.

While Salcedo did not mention Gorriceta by name, the City Prosecutor ruled that the Facebook posts were about her.

Salcedo’s numerous posts allegedly maligned Gorriceta, calling her names in the Hiligaynon language, including “kerida” (concubine), “bigaon” (flirt), “alpot” (whore), and “ma-ngo” (dumb).

In counter-affidavits submitted to the City Prosecutor, Salcedo denied the allegations against him.

Gorriceta said she and Salcedo used to be good friends until they had a falling out in July 2023 and he started maligning her on social media.
