The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) will be pursuing stalled urban housing projects as part of the new strategy of the government’s mass housing program.
DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling said the new strategy will benefit around 5,000 individuals in Caloocan City where at least three stalled housing projects were identified during the monitoring and assessment of past mass housing programs.
“We want to revive past projects that did not push through as part of the President’s goal of providing decent homes to as many informal settlers and low income earners,” said Aliling.
Initially, the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) identified three stalled vertical housing projects (VHPs) in Caloocan City.
These are the Alyansang Mamamayan ng Caloocan Housing Cooperative and Hopeville Phase 2 Homeowners Association Inc. both in Bagumbong, and the Genesis Ville HOA Inc. in Camarin.
The projects were approved during the time of former president Noynoy Aquino-- targeting mostly informal settler families, as beneficiaries.
Aliling said the three projects are composed of 35 low-rise buildings, which were not fully completed.
“The SHFC was instructed to improve the sites with open spaces and facilities,” said Aliling.
