Cool conditions expected over most of Luzon, Visayas as 'amihan' persists — PAGASA
Most of Luzon and Visayas will continue to experience cooler weather due to the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, Jan. 28.
PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the amihan is expected to last until Friday, Jan. 30, before gradually weakening over the weekend.
The top 10 areas that recorded the lowest air temperatures on Wednesday were Baguio City, Benguet (14.6°C); Tanay, Rizal (18.9°C); Malaybalay, Bukidnon (19°C); Basco, Batanes (20°C); Casiguran, Aurora (20.2°C); Abucay, Bataan (20.4°C); Baler, Aurora (20.5°C); Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (21°C); Catbalogan City, Samar (21°C); and Coron, Palawan (21°C).
Over the next 24 hours, Aurelio said cloudy skies with light monsoon rains will prevail over Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, and Quezon.
Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, and the rest of Visayas are expected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light monsoon rains.
Meanwhile, the shear line, a weather system formed by the collision of cold winds from the northeast (amihan) and warm winds from the Pacific Ocean (easterlies), will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms over Caraga and Southern Leyte, PAGASA said.
The rest of Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms, Aurelio added.
Aurelio also said there is no low-pressure area or tropical cyclone being monitored near or inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility as of Wednesday.
