P70.8-M illegal drugs seized from Malaysian, ex-SK chair

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Authorities seized illegal drugs valued at P70.8 million and arrested two suspected pushers in a buy-bust operation on Monday, Jan. 26, in Barangay Pasiagan, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.
Apprehended were a Malaysian, Chomen, and a former Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman, Jerry.
Recovered from them were one kilogram of dried marijuana kush, 50 vacuum-sealed transparent plastic bags containing approximately 25 kilograms of dried marijuana kush, and 135 vacuum-sealed transparent plastic bags containing fully grown dried marijuana stalks and leaves with fruiting tops weighing approximately 33.75 kilograms.
Suspects are in the custody of the Bongao Municipal Police Station, awaiting inquest proceedings for violating Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Authorities are probing how they managed to slip the contraband into the country.
