Negros Occidental urges authorities to continue searching for 2 missing Devon Bay crew
BACOLOD CITY – The provincial government of Negros Occidental has called on authorities and maritime stakeholders to continue and intensify search and rescue operations for two missing seafarers of MV Devon Bay.
Capt. Elimar Jucal of San Enrique town and Jejanfer Partosa Marfa of Cadiz City were among the 21 members of the MV Devon Bay with an all-Filipino crew that capsized in the West Philippine Sea northwest of Scarborough Shoal on Jan. 23.
Of the 21 crew, 15 were rescued, two were confirmed dead, and four, including Jucal and Marfa, remain missing.
The Philippine Coast Guard has recognized the heroism of Jucal for refusing to abandon the vessel despite the danger.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson recognized the courage and selfless leadership of Jucal in ensuring the safety of his crew, reflecting the highest ideals of Filipino seafarers that deserve utmost recognition.
"We remain united in prayer, hope, and solidarity with the affected families during this difficult time."
